USA Fencing Announces 2016 All-Academic Team:

US Fencings All-Academic Team honors are bestowed on student athletes who have excelled in high school.   All high school students are invited and encouraged to apply during the application period.

Athletes with a GPA of at least 3.85 are eligible to be named to the First All-Academic Team. Second Team athletes include those whose GPAs are 3.7 – 3.84.  Athletes with 3.5 – 3.69 GPAs are recognized on the Honorable Mention Team.

This year, there were a total of 509 student-athletes who achieved All-Academic honors – 9 of them are from the Arizona Fencing Division.

2016 Annual Meeting

USA Fencing 2016 Arizona Division Annual Meeting will be held:
Sunday June 12, 2016 at 10:00am

Our Bylaws direct that the Annual Meeting be held before July 1 to elect officers for the following year. The USFA fencing season officially begins on August 1 and ends July 31.

The agenda for the meeting is as follows:
1. Chairman’s recap & update on rule changes for 2016-2017 season
2. Report from the Secretary on the Division’s membership
3. A financial report by the Treasurer,
4. Vice Chairperson update.
5. Election of Officers for the 2016-2017 season

Any voting member may raise any other matter for discussion and action, except a proposed amendment to the bylaws.

To vote at membership meetings, a member must be a members of the Arizona Division (18 years of age or older) and current USFA member in good standing as of 2/1/2016
If an eligible voting member is unable to attend the meeting, s/he may elect to give a proxy to another eligible voting member of the Division. All proxy votes must be in writing and be mailed, scanned or emailed back to the Secretary of the Division for validation at least seventy-two (72) hours before the meeting. The person designated in the proxy must also meet the voting requirements and attend the meeting to exercise the vote.

REMINDER TO ALL CLUBS HOSTING COMPETITIONS:

  1. Verify ALL fencers eligibility prior to start of competition
  2. Competition results need to be posted in Askfred
  3. Complete any necessary “Classification Change Reports” (form available on US Fencing website under “Membership”, “Divisions”, then click on “Officer Resources” and select “Documents”, “Classification Change Report)
  4. Complete the required “Event Referee Form” (form available on US Fencing website under “Membership”, “Divisions” then click on “Officer Resources” and select “Documents”, “Event Referee Form”)
  5. Email the results (and verified membership information) from FencingTime, the completed Classification Change Report (if necessary), and the required Event Referee Form to the Division Secretary

Congratulations to those fencers that qualified for the 2016 Junior Olympics through the Arizona Division Qualifier that was held on December 19th.

Please remember that regular registration for the event closes on January 11, 2016.  Each fencer is responsible for their registration for the event.  Qualifying does not automatically register you for the event.

Junior Olympics are being held in Cleveland, OH.  February 12-15, 2016.               More Information on the event is listed HERE.

JO Division Qualifier Reminder:

Division Qualifiers for JO’s are Saturday, December 19th.  If you have not met the qualification requirements below, you will need to fence in the “Division Qualifier” to try to qualify.

Fencers must be US Citizens or Permanent Residents who have not represented another country in the last 3 years.

Junior:

Fencers must meet age eligibility AND:

Be on the Junior National Rolling Points Standings by the regular entry fee deadline of the Junior Olympics OR
Be in the top 16 of the Cadet National Rolling Points Standings by the regular entry fee deadline of Junior Olympics OR
Be in the top 25% of your region’s Junior Regional Points Standings by the regular entry fee deadline of Junior Olympics OR
Be in the top 25% of your Junior Olympics Division Qualifier.
*Event results submitted with only 1 participant listed or fenced mixed will not result in the athlete fulfilling the qualification requirement.

Cadet:

Fencers must meet age eligibility AND

Be on the Cadet National Rolling Points Standings by the regular entry fee deadline of Junior Olympics OR
Be in the top 8 of the Y14 National Rolling Points Standings by the regular entry fee deadline of Junior Olympics OR
Be in the top 25% of your region’s Cadet Regional Circuit Points Standings by the regular entry fee deadline of Junior Olympics OR

Hey Youth Fencers!

If you are interested in trying to fence at summer nationals here is a great and cost effective opportunity for you.  Arizona is lucky enough to host 1 the SYC’s.  Fencing in an SYC provides an opportunity for you to earn National Points – a qualification path to be eligible to fence at this years summer nationals.

Register to compete in the Bernie Stein Memorial SYC.  General registration is closes on askfred.net Monday October 5th.  Do NOT miss out on this local opportunity.
